Mariano Akerman: Un mensaje vital
“Transformaciones de fibras y cuentos dulces… es el título de la muestra que nos ocupa. Su autor, Mariano Akerman, expone aquí [Buenos Aires] y en el exterior desde 1979. Esta vez, en el íntimo ámbito de R.G. en el Arte, del barrio de Belgrano, presentó una veintena de técnicas mixtas, donde la tendencia colorística no desecha la excelencia de la forma. En este caso “La curva es la diosa,” como el mismo Akerman la definió [recientemente durante nuestra entrevista].
Una primera aproximación nos habla de un dibujante que maneja la línea, el color y el espacio seguro de lo que quiere. Si buscamos una estructura formal en la obra, salta a la vista. Pero, también, hallamos una fundamentación temática muy fuerte. La obra de este artista posee un interesante mensaje vital. Aquí lo simple no descarta lo profundo. Las ondulantes formas de lo natural. Lo vegetal, lo animal y la excelencia siempre de la figura humana. Esta a veces mimetizada en otra forma viviente.
La formación teórica de Akerman descansa en su carrera de arquitecto, todo lo demás en él es vivencia que volcará en su obra. La técnica lo lleva a una actitud preciosista y a veces irreverente: témperas, marcadores, lápiz color, collage, tintas y todo el instrumental arquitectónico, logran el efecto buscado.
Uno de los objetivos es la activa participación del espectador que sólo puede entrar en el juego plástico si suma su cuota de imaginación y fantasía. Así, los ojos picarescos de los personajes se unen a la divertida mirada del testigo, que debe decidir cuál es la figura o dónde está el fondo. ¿Pero se mezclan? ¿Muy oriental o muy decorativo? Se diría ornamental, plástico y poderosamente esperanzado.

Mariano Akerman: A Vital Message
"Fiber Transformations and Sweet Tales... is the title of the art exhibition we shall review. Its author, Mariano Akerman, exhibits here [Buenos Aires] and abroad since 1979. This time, in the intimate space of R.G. en Arte (R.G. Fine Art Gallery), in the neighborhood of Belgrano, he shows some twenty pictures, in which the interest in color doesn’t exclude the excellence of form. In this case, "The curve is the goddess," as Akerman himself has recently defined it in our interview].
A first approach speaks of a draughtsman who is confident in himself when handling line, color and space. If we search for a formal structure, this is self-evident. But there are also strong thematic fundamentals: the work of this artist possesses an interesting vital message. Here the simple doesn't reject the profound. The undulating forms of the natural. The vegetal, the animal and always the excellence of the human figure. This sometimes disguised as another living thing.
Akerman's theoretical education lays on his studies in Architecture; the rest is personal experience which he brings into the artwork. Technically speaking, his attitude has to do with preciosity and sometimes with irreverence too: gouache, marker pens, color pencil, collage, ink and all the architectural tools allow him to achieve the desired effect.
One of the aims is the active participation of the viewer, who can only enjoy the visual game if adding a personal dose of imagination and fantasy. Thus, the picaresque eyes of the characters meet the funny glance of the witness, who must distinguish between figure and background. But... do they merge? Too oriental or too decorative? One would say ornamental, plastic and full of hope.
